We sat down with our kitchen designers to chat about what their top kitchen trends are for 2024!
What’s your must-know interior design and kitchen trends for 2024?
Cristine: In 2024, I think we’re going to see the fall of the greys almost completely! In 2023, people started to step away from all-grey kitchens. Out are the blues, greys, and brilliant whites, and in are the warmer tones and whites, now with the added pops of black through either plinths or hardware.
Liam: I agree, we’re starting to see more natural, neutral colour palettes – something which I think will create timeless designs that can easily, and cost effectively be updated by changing wall colours or accessory colours.
Sophie: I love the number of textured finishes coming through for 2024. Neutral colours and earthy organic tones with wooden accents create such a calm environment and makes for a beautiful and effortless interior look.
Cristine: Absolutely! Along with the warmer tones, timber kitchens are really going to make a comeback this year. I’ve already had quite a few customers debating if to go with a complete timber effect kitchen, as opposed to a pop of timber in an area of the kitchen.
In my opinion, every kitchen should feature some kind of timber finish, be it a solid oak shelf with chunky support brackets, or two-toned paired with a complementing colour. This just brings interest and character to the space.
Liam: I’m also seeing a big increase in the desire for biophilic design principles; where people are embracing nature through natural light, greenery, and other earth-inspired features.
Cristine: And I think when we’re talking about 2024 kitchen trends, we have to talk ceiling heights. More and more customers are starting to extend their cabinetry to the ceiling, getting the maximum storage but also transforming the kitchen style. I’m hoping this trend starts to reflect how people are renovating and building their homes and insist on their ceiling height being taller than the average UK home (2.4m). The Victorians got this trend right!
What are your ultimate kitchen design recommendations for 2024?
Cristine: Appliances should be the front and centre of the kitchen design, as without these it’s not a kitchen at all! The kitchen should be a vessel for you to operate in at your best, and not hinder what you cook. It should provide you with the best tools to complete your day-to-day tasks.
Sophie: I couldn’t agree more, so much development has been going into kitchen appliances for 2024!
Cristine: For me, it starts with the fridge! This where your food starts its journey. If your fridge doesn’t keep your food at the ideal temperature and atmosphere it needs, then it’s not going to keep its freshness or taste. Then the way you cook it is equally important, whether it’s roasting, grilling, steaming, or air-frying.
Sophie: With a healthy lifestyle being so important, Siemens have zoned in on features, such as steam cooking with fully plumbed ovens and making the control functions simple and easy to use. Alongside, integrated recipes assisted by the Home Connect app to promote fresh home cooking.
Cristine: Also, by adding steam to your oven, it allows you to reheat in the best way possible. It makes your roast chicken succulent and juicy on the inside, while crispy and brown on the outside. It injects your cakes and muffins to make them fluffy and bouncy! The new ranges within our brands are now plumbed into the mains too, so no more filling the water tank up. Just select the steam options and sit back.
And finally, one of the up-and-coming appliances I think people really need to think about this year is the vacuum draw! This is a high-quality investment, but this will pay for itself in the long run. This appliance will help preserve our foods for longer, saving us money on a weekly basis as there will be less food waste. As well as vacuum packing bags, it also reseals jars – you’ll never have to open the half empty jar of pesto to realise it’s mouldy again!
Liam: I think my top kitchen design recommendation for 2024 would be to get what you love and aim for a timeless design. That way the kitchen will last as long, stylistically, as it will physically.
It’s also important to consider the future; will it be as practical in ten or twenty years as it is now?
